ResizeKit Privacy Policy
ResizeKit resizes, compresses, converts and crops your images, and turns them into PDFs. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it. The short version:
- Your photos never leave your device. All processing happens on your phone. We do not upload, receive, view or store your images.
- There are no accounts. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number or address.
- The app is free and supported by ads. The ads are provided by Google AdMob, which uses device identifiers. You can control this (see “Advertising”).
- Usage analytics are off until you turn them on.
1. Your images and files
When you pick or share images into ResizeKit, the app reads them on your device, processes them on your device, and saves the results on your device, either in Pictures/ResizeKit or in a folder you choose. Nothing about your images is sent to us or to any server.
- No photo-library permission. ResizeKit does not request access to your photos or media. You choose images with the Android system photo picker, the share sheet, or by granting access to a specific folder.
- Older Android versions. On Android 7 to 9 only, the app uses the “write to storage” permission so it can save results into your Pictures folder. It only writes files. It never reads your library. This permission does not exist on Android 10 and later.
- Photo metadata (EXIF). Photos can contain details such as the camera model and the GPS location where they were taken. ResizeKit lets you choose whether to keep or remove this from the files it saves. The app never sends this metadata anywhere.
- Notification. While a large batch runs, Android shows a notification for a foreground service so the work can continue when you leave the screen. No data is collected by this.
2. Information stored on your device
ResizeKit keeps your settings (such as theme and filename template) and a history of your recent jobs in storage private to the app on your device. This history records things like which tool was used and the output location. It is not sent to us. Uninstalling the app removes it.
If Android’s Google backup is turned on for your device, Android may include the app’s settings in your own Google backup, under your Google account and your own backup settings. We do not have access to it.
3. Advertising
ResizeKit shows ads through Google AdMob (banner, interstitial, rewarded and app-open ads). To show ads and measure how they perform, Google’s advertising software on your device may collect and use:
- your device’s advertising ID (a resettable identifier),
- your IP address and approximate location derived from it,
- device and app information, such as model, operating system version and app version, and
- information about how you interact with ads.
We do not receive this information in a form that identifies you. Google’s use of it is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and in Google’s Privacy Policy.
Your choices
- Consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland). If you are in one of these regions, ResizeKit asks for your consent before showing personalised ads, using Google’s consent tool. You can change your answer at any time under Settings → Privacy options in the app.
- Android settings. You can reset your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalisation, in your phone’s Settings → Privacy → Ads (the exact path varies by device).
- Fewer ads on request. You can choose to watch a short rewarded video, which unlocks larger batches for that job and pauses ads for ten minutes. Nothing is ever required.
4. Analytics (optional, off by default)
During first-run setup, ResizeKit asks whether you are happy to share anonymous usage statistics. Nothing is sent unless you say yes, and in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, only after the consent step above is complete. You can turn it off at any time under Settings → Privacy.
If you turn analytics on, we use Google Firebase Analytics. It receives short event records such as:
- that you imported images, and roughly how many,
- that you started or finished a job, which feature you used, roughly how long it took, and roughly how much smaller the result was,
- that a job failed, and the kind of failure (for example, out of memory or unsupported file),
- that we chose not to show you an ad, and which rule stopped it.
Firebase also attaches standard device information (such as device model, operating system version, country and app version) and a random app-instance identifier. When the AdMob and Firebase accounts are linked, Firebase also receives ad-impression events, with an estimated revenue value, which helps us understand what keeps the app free.
What we never send: your photos, file names, folder names or paths, exact image dimensions or exact file sizes (only rough ranges), the location from a photo or from your device, and any account or contact details. The full plain-English list of events is available in the app, on the “What we collect” screen.
If you switch analytics off, collection stops and the analytics data held on your device is cleared and its identifier reset, so later activity cannot be linked to earlier activity.
5. Crash reports
To find and fix bugs, ResizeKit uses Google Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes or hits a serious error, a report is sent that contains the technical stack trace, device model, operating system version, app version, whether the app was in the foreground, and a random installation identifier. It contains no photos, file names, locations or account details.
Crash reporting is separate from the analytics setting in section 4: we use it on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app stable, and it is collected even if analytics is off. Crashlytics reports are kept for 90 days.
6. Purchases
The app does not currently sell anything. If in-app purchases are added in a future version, they will be handled entirely by Google Play: we will never see or store your card or payment details, and this policy will be updated before they go live.
7. How long we keep data
- Photos: we never hold them, so there is nothing to keep.
- Settings and history: on your device until you clear the app’s data or uninstall.
- Firebase Analytics data: up to 14 months, then it is deleted automatically.
- Crash reports: 90 days.
- Advertising data: held by Google under its own policies.
8. Who we share data with
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone other than the Google services named above (AdMob, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics and Google Play), which act on our behalf under Google’s terms. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
9. Your rights
We hold no account or personal profile about you, and the identifiers described above are random and not linked to your name. Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, or the CCPA in California) you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, or if you have a question or complaint, email [email protected]. Because the identifiers are random, we may need an app-instance ID or advertising ID from you to find any data that relates to your device. You can also contact your local data protection authority.
10. Children
ResizeKit is not for children. It is not designed for or directed at anyone under 13 (or the higher minimum age in your country), and it should not be used by them. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
11. Security
Because your images are processed only on your device, they are as safe as the device itself. Data sent to Google’s services travels over encrypted connections.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and its effective date, and where the change is significant we will tell you in the app.
